Portable operation: backyard, sept. 2, 2006

Portable operation from my backyard I wanted to test my new portable satellite station for my trip to Texel island.
As AO-51 was in mode V/S it was a perfect opportunity to try and make a first QSO in this mode.

My setup consisted of (see picture):
 Yaesu FT-817ND all-mode transceiver (uplink, 5 W)
 Icom IC-R20 all-mode receiver (downlink)
 K5GNA 13cm downconverter
 13cm hybrid quad antenna, homebuild
 Arrow antenna (2m/70cm)
 Headset with integrated microphone
 7Ah lead-acid battery

13cm hybrid quad antenna and K5GNA downconverter

Receiving mode S is quite easy but there is a lot of doppler so I had to keep tuning to keep up.
Mounting the hybrid quad antenna on a tripod was not a good idea as I had to keep changing polarisation to get the best downlink signal possible.

I managed one QSO with ON5SA. Check the details below.
